ISLAMABAD: The legal community on Friday strongly condemned the terror attack on District Courts of Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and demanded of the government to bring the cuprits to account. A suicide blast at District Court Mardan is the second attack on the legal fraternity in less than a month after the carnage in Quetta on August 8.
The attack reportedly carried out by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP’s) group Jamatul Ahrar on Friday claimed lives of more than 13 people including lawyers and policemen with dozens injured. Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali in his message strongly condemned the attack on the lawyer’s community and offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He also prayed for recuperation of injured people.
The Attorney General of Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf in his message also condemned the incident. “This cowardly act will not stop our resolve in fighting the terrorists till the last one is eliminated,” he said. On behalf of the legal fraternity, Vice Chairman Pakistan Bar Council Dr. Farogh Naseem strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Mardan courts. For condemnation of this tragic incident he appealed to the lawyers to observe a countrywide strike on Saturday (today).
The lawyers, as such, while observing strike will hold protest meetings in their bar rooms and wear black armbands to condemn the tragic incident. Deploring the utter failure of the Federal and KP Governments in maintaining law and order situation in the Province and to provide security and safety to the people, the Vice Chairman demanded of the government to arrest the culprits and bring them to justice at the earliest.
While expressing solidarity with bereaved families, he emphasised the need to evolving foolproof practical strategies and plan for improving the law and order situation in and around courts throughout Pakistan, ensuring safety and security of the judges, lawyers and litigants.
President Supreme Court Bar Association Barrister Ali Zafar, while condemning the incident, said that the tragedy was not just an attack on lawyers but on all citizens.
“Keeping in view the situation of insecurity, lawyers will not only take to the streets but also prepare a long-term action plan to defeat the menace of terrorism,” he added. “We have raised our voice again and again to say we need security, and we will see to it that our demand is met.”
