ISLAMABAD: The officials of Punjab and Sindh Workers Welfare Board have allegedly committed corruption worth billions of rupees in labor colonies, construction of residential flats and its distribution.
According to the records tabled in the parliamentary committee, the officials of Punjab Workers Welfare Board (PWWB) have purchased lands for the construction of labor colonies in the province and allegedly committed corruption approximately worth Rs 2.11 billion and made payments without the measurement of lands which has been termed illegal.
The report also said that the Sindh Workers Welfare Board (SWWB) had constructed about 320 residential flats to provide shelter to needy people of society. The financial corruption worth Rs 550 million in the construction of these residential flats had been revealed and evidences of wastage of national money have come out as the SWWB authorities have awarded contract to another construction company instead of low rate company and apparently this thing reflects the element of corruption in this project.
The low rates were received from the allottees and given 25 per cent subsidy and now the parliamentary committee would review the matter regarding unfair allotment.
During the minister ship of Khursheed Shah, sewing machines were purchased to provide job opportunities to poor women. The concerned officials had also allegedly committed financial corruption worth Rs 15 million in this purchase and as a result, poor women were deprived of sewing machines.
The report added that hefty corruption was committed in the construction of residential flats in the premises of labor colony in Larkana. The officials of Workers Welfare Peshawar had purchased luxury vehicles while misusing the funds allocated for poor and needy people and alleged corruption worth Rs 3 million was committed.
